The reason a plasma treated surface will result in a stronger bond is because the addition of reactive species to the surface of a substrate. The delivery of these species to the metal allows for a chemical bond between the species and the metal. This forms a linking sites. These linking sites are an additional layer on top of the metal that facilitate the spread of the coating across the metal and act as a bonding layer between the metal and the coating. This results in a larger contact area between the metal and coating which enhances bond strength and delays the onset of corrosion.
The PlasmaBlast system treats the complete surface (cracks, crevices, profile valleys) without changing the profile or mechanical/metallurgical properties of the metal. The path of removal for the plasma acts like a fluid and can remove coatings over any shape or complex geometry.
This tool has been designed with the safety of the operator in mind. Eliminates WASTE, VIBRATION, NOISE, OFF-GASSING / The treatment produces carbon dioxide, water vapor, and small quantities of non-toxic gases and dust. Additionally, the tool is easy to use and quick to be trained on, in comparison to some conventional methods.
PlasmaBlast has been used 300 feet above the ground on wind towers and 7 decks below on an aircraft carrier. Because the plasma beam flows like water this technology is perfect to clean the intricate threads of a coated bolt, reach down into a crack of a corroded part or remove the paint from the crease in a dent. The 34 pound, PB-7000 is a portable plasma system for manual use or robotic implementation on industrial and military assets. The tool has been ruggedized to ensure successful operation in harsh environments.
This sealed system integrates easily into a robotic cell. No dangerous light emissions. Ideal for surface cleaning before welding. This model includes a plasma pen designed for attachment to an end effector and a serial port for digital control.
Engineered to do surface preparation in tight spaces and remotes places. Proven effective 300+ feet in the air on wind turbines. Also proven to withstand use in desert, arctic and coastal environments.
Hand held operation to use at a work bench or in a lab setting. This system is easily portable across a workshop. Setup and ready to go in about a minute with no settings required. The ergonomic plasma pen weighs less than one pound.
The contract extends APS’s strategic support of Naval platforms on all classes of Surface Ships, Air Craft Carriers and Submarines as well as other naval assets.
